Horner sees similarities between Vettel and Kvyat
Daniil Kvyat will replace Sebastian Vettel at Red Bull Racing in 2015, and Christian Horner sees great potential with the Russian driver for the future.

With Sebastian Vettel’s departure from the Red Bull team, the Austrian team announced shortly after the appointment of Daniil Kvyat alongside Daniel Ricciardo for 2015. The German, crowned with 4 world titles, will drive for Ferrari, but Red Bull has decided to trust a young wolf to replace him.
Christian Horner has full confidence in the abilities of the Russian driver, whom he compares to Vettel in his early days, as he stated to Crash.net: « Obviously, while we are sorry to see [Vettel] go, we are excited for our future. We know we have a phenomenal driver in Daniel Ricciardo and in Daniil Kvyat we have something raw but it’s very exciting in a similar way as it was with Sebastian. »
Horner believes that Kvyat was shielded by the rumors about Vettel’s transfer to Ferrari, which allowed him to focus on Toro Rosso and now he can concentrate on Red Bull for 2015: « It was very convenient for him because he was somewhat off the radar. He drove for my team in GP3 last year, his progress—particularly in the second half of the year—was phenomenal. So I have been closely watching his progress and of course in a Toro Rosso this year, he has done an incredible job and I think he will continue to grow even more next year. »
For his first season in F1 in 2014, after his title in the GP3 Series, Daniil Kvyat participated in 19 Grand Prix races, finished 14 of them – he had to retire 5 times due to technical problems each time – and scored points on 5 occasions, with a 9th place as his best result so far – in Australia, Great Britain, and Belgium. He scored a total of 8 points – 14 less than Vergne.
