Official: Carlos Sainz Jr at Toro Rosso in 2015
Carlos Sainz Jr will team up with Max Verstappen at Toro Rosso in 2015. The Spaniard, this season's Formula Renault 3.5 champion, replaces Jean-Eric Vergne.

The confirmation was expected since Jean-Eric Vergne announced he was leaving Toro Rosso: Carlos Sainz Jr will indeed be the second driver for Red Bull’s sister team. He will team up with Max Verstappen for a 100% rookie team.
The 20-year-old Spaniard, who has been part of the Red Bull fold for several years, won the Formula Renault 3.5 title this season and took part in the recent Abu Dhabi tests for Red Bull.
« Since I joined the Red Bull Junior Team, it has been my goal, » explained Sainz. « And I want to thank Red Bull for placing their trust in me. I had a very successful season in WSR and now, I am eager to make the big jump into F1. I did a test day last year with Toro Rosso and I loved the atmosphere within the team. In the coming months, I will work hard on my preparation, ready to get in the cockpit in Jerez for the first tests next year. It will be great to make my “official” debut as a Formula 1 driver in my home country. »
During the press conference held this Saturday, Carlos Sainz Jr revealed that he will take the number 55.
