Abu Dhabi: Rosberg believes Hamilton was “the best driver” in 2014
Unfortunate hero of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Nico Rosberg is disappointed but not defeated. He believes that Lewis Hamilton deserved his title and hopes to find that extra something to beat him in 2015.
After a poor start that relegated him to second position, Nico Rosberg suffered an energy recovery issue shortly before the halfway point of the race, causing him to drop down the Grand Prix standings – which he finished in 14th position – and burying his chances of becoming Champion.
Lewis Hamilton prevailed at the same time to win his second World Champion title effortlessly.
If the German expresses disappointment, he believes the title is well-deserved for his teammate: « I am very disappointed, there was a good chance today. It didn’t work out, but in the end, my race didn’t change things because Lewis won fairly. I’m not going to dwell on my problem today: he deserved to win and he deserved to be champion. He was a bit better this season, so it’s fully deserved. He was the best driver on the grid this year. »
It was a great battle between us and that’s what I race for. It was obviously a very intense moment, but also fantastic. « This weekend was an incredible experience, I have never had so much support from fans all around the world. Even the British – obviously, most of them were there for Lewis but it was so nice to see yesterday, after the qualifiers, that everyone was greeting me and applauding with respect. »
« There are also many strong points I can build on for next year. I’ve been better in qualifying over the last two years, but I need to find a bit more in the race and I will do it. It’s not going to be easy to progress and find that little extra, but I know what those areas are, so I will work on them. »
