Ecclestone helped Caterham be present in Abu Dhabi

If the Caterham F1 team is present this weekend in Abu Dhabi, it's partly thanks to assistance provided by Bernie Ecclestone to enable the Leafield team to participate in the last F1 Grand Prix of the year 2014.

The Caterham F1 team will be present this weekend in Abu Dhabi for the final round of the 2014 Formula 1 season, and this was made possible thanks to a little help from Bernie Ecclestone, head of FOM.

Indeed, the Briton helped financially – in addition to the crowdfunding campaign set up by the team – for the team’s return to F1 after a two Grand Prix absence, as he stated, quoted by the BBC Sport: « They wanted to go, so we transported them at no cost to them. »

While he mentioned in recent days that Caterham and Marussia would not be missed by anyone in the paddock, Bernie Ecclestone ultimately decided to help the Leafield team be present for the final round of 2014: “We have at least helped them to a certain degree, something we didn’t need to do. We even chartered another plane to take them. We went a bit beyond the limit, but it doesn’t matter, we did it.”

Finbarr O’Connell, representative of the administrators of the Caterham team, is expected to be in Abu Dhabi to meet potential buyers for the Caterham team.
