Sebastian Vettel has announced his departure from Red Bull at the end of the season, but for the moment, he has not yet announced the name of his future team, even though everything suggests that it will be Scuderia Ferrari, as he recently hinted, just like Christian Horner.

This change of team, after four titles and a complicated 2014, is not a surprise to Mark Webber – the German’s teammate within the Austrian team between 2009 and 2013. Indeed, when asked if he was surprised to see his former teammate leave Red Bull, the Australian responded, as quoted by The F1 Times, in the negative: « No. I’ve always expected to see him eventually go where everyone expects him to go now. »

Webber even believes that the German should finish his career with the Maranello team: His next team will be his last in Formula 1.

This year, Red Bull has been less successful than in previous years, particularly with the transition to the V6 Turbo, but the Austrian team still managed to secure three victories—all through Daniel Ricciardo. Nonetheless, the team is in 2nd place in the Constructors’ Championship, ahead of Williams and Ferrari, whom they lead by 163 points, which has surprised many observers. However, Webber recalled the case of Lewis Hamilton, who had left McLaren for Mercedes, a decision that had surprised many but ultimately proved to be the right one, with the Briton now on the verge of clinching his second title.

« He was frustrated, he wants results, but he also knows better than anyone that he needs to be patient. Maybe his decision is correct. When Lewis left McLaren, everyone said he was crazy. Look where he is now, » adds Webber.
