Esteban Gutierrez, briefly 3rd in the race during the pit stops, hoped to bring the Sauber F1 team its first points in 2014, but that was not the case, and the Mexican struggled with his tires to finish in a modest 14th place, far from the top 10.

« We fought hard throughout the race, and it felt good at the halfway point. When I tried to battle with a car in front of me, I lost grip, and the tires quickly started overheating. It was very difficult to manage the tire grip. There’s only one race left, and we will keep pushing to achieve our goal of scoring points, » explains Gutierrez.

Adrian Sutil was hoping to take advantage of his 13th place on the grid to aim for points but ultimately had to start from the pits, thus compromising his race. The German finally finished 16th and second to last: « It was a race full of twists and turns for me. I had to start from the pit lane due to a cooling configuration issue. It was a shame because we often have problems. As a driver, you give your best in qualifying, but then you have to start the race in last position. Moreover, there was an incident during my first pit stop, which cost me time. »

Monisha Kaltenborn, the director of the Swiss team, is disappointed with the outcome of the race after a promising qualifying session: « Today’s result is very disappointing. Esteban had a promising starting position and a good chance to score a point, which unfortunately did not happen. Adrian’s opportunities were reduced after being forced to start from the pit lane and losing time during his first stop. »
