Horner criticizes crowdfunding set up by Caterham

The administrators of the Caterham F1 team have set up crowdfunding to enable the team to raise the necessary funds to participate in the last race of the 2014 season. However, the method used does not please everyone, notably Christian Horner, who believes that it's not up to the fans to pay a Formula 1 team's bills.

The Caterham F1 team has already missed one Grand Prix, in Austin last weekend, and will miss a second one this weekend in Brazil, as indicated by the team a few days ago. But the goal of the administrators who took control of the team following its administration is to go to Abu Dhabi for the last race of the season.

To achieve its goal, the Caterham team has launched a crowdfunding campaign – if this approach is an interesting novelty for F1, it is far from unanimous.

Christian Horner, director of Red Bull Racing, notably criticized to Sky Sports News the choice made by the team’s administrators: « I disagree with fans financing a team. Fans pay to be entertained by teams, they shouldn’t have to pay for a team. The concept is wrong and should not be allowed. »

As the Caterham team seeks to raise 3 million euros to travel to Abu Dhabi for the final round of the season from November 21 to 23, shortly after 10:00 am this Saturday, the team has already managed to collect nearly 415,000 euros, which is 13% of the total goal that needs to be gathered by November 14.
