Rubens Barrichello back in F1? According to Adam Cooper, a British journalist, on his blog, such a possibility was in the works but Caterham F1’s administration proceedings prevented this project from materializing.

At 42 years old, “Rubinho” has always maintained that he never got over the end of his F1 career, which was interrupted after the 2011 season when he completed his second year with Williams. Despite this, he has remained active, participating in IndyCar in 2012 and also getting involved in stock car racing in Brazil.

An opportunity could have been offered to him at the end of the 2014 season to taste the discipline once again and for the last time. Indeed, according to A. Cooper, Colin Kolles had been working for several months — with the support of the Brazilian Grand Prix promoter — on setting up a deal for Barrichello to replace Kamui Kobayashi during the last three GPs of the season, in Austin, Interlagos, and Abu Dhabi: « We would have had Barrichello race during the last three races. We had a sponsor for this and everything was heading in the right direction. It would have been fantastic for F1. »

On his side, Rubens Barrichello, questioned about this potential return, indicated: « It would have been great to race in front of my supporters one more time and say goodbye properly. »
