Even without its preferred protégé, Fernando Alonso, the company Santander could continue with Scuderia Ferrari until the end of its contract - in 2017 - according to the Spanish press.

While the future of Fernando Alonso seems to be moving away from Scuderia Ferrari, his current team, it might not change anything for one of the companies that has been following him for a few years: Santander.

The Spanish bank was present at McLaren during the Spaniard’s stint in 2007, and then joined him at Ferrari when he transferred, growing over the years. The Spanish company’s logo is prominently displayed on the drivers’ suits, caps, and generally on the team members’ attire, as well as on the F14-T, notably on the rear wing.

But according to Marca, Santander could stay until the end of its contract with Ferrari, which is until the end of 2017, even if the double world champion were to leave the Maranello team. However, Alonso could still receive financial support from the Spanish bank in case of departure, particularly for McLaren, which has a historical connection with the company.

Taking into account potentially lower financial support, Alonso would be discussing with other companies, such as Telefonica, the Iberian telephone company that supported him during his time at Renault F1 Team, according to the Spanish newspaper.
