The United States Grand Prix was turbulent and provided plenty of work for the FIA stewards. Several incidents during the race were penalized, including exceeding the speed limit under the safety car, where Esteban Gutierrez, Pastor Maldonado, and Jean-Eric Vergne were each handed a 5-second penalty and one penalty point on their licenses. However, other incidents remained under investigation after the checkered flag.

Sergio Pérez, who caused a collision with Adrian Sutil’s Sauber on the first lap of the race, leading to a double retirement, has been penalized with a 7-place grid drop for the Brazilian Grand Prix. The stewards deemed his maneuver reckless. The Mexican also received 2 penalty points on his license.

Similarly, Jean-Eric Vergne, guilty of touching Romain Grosjean, was penalized 5 seconds. He thus loses his 9th position to Pastor Maldonado who had finished ahead of the Frenchman on the track but also had a 5-second penalty. Nevertheless, the Toro Rosso driver scores the point for 10th place. A point is also his other penalty, on his license, for this incident, bringing his total to 3 points since the start of the season, including two in this single GP.
