Marcus Ericsson will drive for the Sauber F1 team in 2015. The team officially announced it this Saturday evening in Austin, during the United States Grand Prix. The Swede started his F1 career with Caterham this season. Although his team is not present this weekend, he is there thanks to national television.

Monisha Kaltenborn stated that the young driver had made a good impression on her: « We saw in Marcus a highly motivated driver. He did not have an easy first season, yet he kept his cool and continuously improved, especially in the last few races. We are convinced that signing Marcus can give the team a whole new momentum. »

The driver with number 9, for his part, is the happiest of men: « After a very turbulent week, I suddenly received the best Christmas gift. Sauber has placed their trust in me for 2015 and that makes me proud, as Sauber is known to be one of the best teams for developing young drivers. It will be a great challenge. I will give my best to progress as a driver and to be part of the challenge to bring Sauber forward. »

Marcus Ericsson is supported by several Swedish companies whose funds will most likely be important for the survival of the Sauber team.

Adrian Sutil, Esteban Gutierrez, and Giedo van der Garde are in the running for the second seat, although, according to Adam Cooper, it’s the German who is in the lead.
