The new president of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA), Alexander Wurz, sought to alert the entire paddock against rushing to conclusions regarding Jules Bianchi’s accident at the Japanese Grand Prix.

Victim of a high-speed off-track excursion at the end of which he collided with the rear of a crane that was maneuvering to secure Adrian Sutil’s Sauber, the French driver is currently hospitalized in a serious but stable condition at Mie General Hospital, a few kilometers from the Suzuka circuit.

For Alexander Wurz, while lessons from the accident should be learned as soon as possible, one must not rush: « Obviously, such a terrible accident raises many questions and opinions. By nature, we all want answers, conclusions, and solutions. All of us, the drivers, understand and feel the need to investigate and discuss this issue. But we must not draw hasty conclusions without having all the evidence and information, and also without having the chance to hear all parties, » he explained to Autosport.

This recommendation from the Austrian is not without echoing the controversy that emerged on Monday, following the release of the images of Jules Bianchi’s accident, regarding the presence of a green flag a few meters from where the lifting device is maneuvering, which MotorsInside sought to explain the details in this article.

He asks F1 drivers not to publicly discuss the conditions of the accident while some uncertainties remain: « We should not debate this incident until we have all the information. More surely, I recommend all drivers to refrain from any public discussion. Such discussions and the search for solutions should take place in a closed circle to ensure respect and privacy for Jules’ family, but also to ensure that this process of analysis can be done in the best way. »

« We must allow the experts time to analyze everything and, obviously, we offer our support to any authority that may be involved in this process. But, above all, we want to support Jules’ family and friends. We do this in the best way, not by jumping to conclusions. Our thoughts are with Jules and his family. »
