The new leader of the World Championship drivers, Lewis Hamilton, spoke in the columns of the Spanish daily AS about the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix: « All the great drivers have won at Suzuka, and I am determined to add my name to the list of winners. I have never won on this track and have only been on the podium once, in 2009. This year, I have a fantastic car and hope to have a great chance of reaching the top of the podium. All the great F1 drivers have won at Suzuka since I started watching races in the 80s, and I have decided to add my name to this list this weekend. »

During the last Grand Prix won by the English driver, Lewis Hamilton believes that the team suffered from Nico Rosberg’s new retirement: « The field is leveled, so now I expect another battle all the way to the checkered flag at Suzuka, one of the races on the calendar that drivers love. »

The new runner-up in the world championship, Nico Rosberg also spoke, stating that despite reliability issues, he believes he is capable of improving the Mercedes. He also hopes to regain the lead in the drivers’ championship after the race held in Suzuka: « Singapore is probably the toughest moment of the season, and in hindsight, I still think that’s true. Having the possibility of a good result and losing it before even starting, I find it hard to accept. I lost a lot of points for the world championship, but I can’t blame the team. »

The Mercedes driver insists once again that the team will improve the reliability of their car. The former teammate of Michael Schumacher defended the team’s work but calls for improved reliability: « I cannot fault the efforts the team is making, I go to the factory and I see that everyone is working at full capacity, obviously, they want to achieve better results in order to improve reliability, and I know they will do things right. »

Rosberg ends his interview in Marca by describing what the Japanese Grand Prix represents: « There is so much history in this race. Suzuka is one of the best circuits in the world. There are incredible fans who are crazy about F1. »
