During the Singapore Grand Prix qualifiers, Romain Grosjean unapologetically shared his frustrations about the Renault power unit in his Lotus during a radio conversation that did not go unnoticed.

The Franco-Swiss showed anger, notably saying: « I can’t believe it, damn engine, damn engine » before finishing with « I don’t care, I don’t care too much is too much ».

The Lotus driver qualified 16th during the qualifications. In the race on the Marina Bay circuit, he finished in 13th position of the Grand Prix. Despite this new underperformance for the Enstone team, Federico Gastaldi is not worried about the outburst of his French driver: « Well, the heat can lead us to say things out of passion. Sometimes, when things don’t go as you wish, you can have statements like what happened. »

« After all, sometimes people say that drivers are too boring or that they don’t show their human side or their opinions. This sometimes happens in extreme conditions and that’s what happened last Saturday, » he explains.

We were all extremely disappointed, but of course, Romain was the most disappointed of all, and he reacted. Sometimes, it’s difficult to contain human emotion when it surfaces. It was quite ironic that radio communications were the hot topic in Singapore because these are things not meant to be said, and then these statements make headlines in difficult circumstances, he concluded in PlanetF1.

Romain Grosjean is currently in 14th position in the drivers’ championship, with 8 points, while Pastor Maldonado has yet to score a point. Lotus is currently 8th in the constructors’ standings.
