The English engine manufacturer Cosworth could make its return to Formula 1 with the support of Bernie Ecclestone. Ten world champions have been equipped by this legendary engine manufacturer. Although the British company has not supplied engines for a team since the end of the 2013 season, the year it only equipped the Marussia team, Cosworth is setting up a new engine manufacturing center that will be based in Northampton.

The British company confirmed that it will deliver the next generation of internal combustion engines for the automotive industry. The company will be supported by a grant from the British government. If the Cosworth V6 were admitted in F1, it would be a cost-effective solution compared to buying a turbo V6 from Mercedes, Ferrari, or Renault.

« I have heard from England that Cosworth is working on a modern power unit for Formula One, and behind the scenes there is a certain Bernard Ecclestone, » declares Mathias Brunner, correspondent for Speed Week.

As a reminder, despite its withdrawal from F1 at the beginning of the year, Cosworth had designed a V6 engine block that complies with the current engine regulations of the Formula 1 World Championship.
