Saturday: Problems continue for Gutiérrez and Sauber at Spa
Esteban Gutiérrez saw his qualifying session end in Q1 due to a new problem with his Sauber F1. The Mexican driver is disappointed with the current situation but will undoubtedly try to bounce back in the race tomorrow. Things are better for Adrian Sutil, although he will only start 14th tomorrow, but the German has focused his setup for dry conditions, which should help him in the race tomorrow.
Adrian Sutil (No. 99) – 15th and 14th
The German driver struggled with his Sauber in the rain as it remains difficult to drive in these conditions: « Another wet qualifying session at Spa, like last year. It was challenging to judge the track situation, especially trying to determine the amount of water in the corners. In sessions with rain, the car remains difficult to drive. »
But Sutil worked on the race with his engineers and he hopes it will pay off tomorrow: Based on the weather forecast for tomorrow’s race, we opted for dry settings for qualifying. Therefore, the car’s balance was not optimal. Under these circumstances, we can be happy, and it was important to finish qualifying without making mistakes. The team did a good job, and I got the maximum out of the car. I am satisfied with the outcome of these qualifications.
Esteban Gutiérrez (No. 21) – 18th and 20th
The Mexican saw his qualifications end due to a problem in Q1, and he seems tired of all the problems encountered with his Sauber: « It has been an unfortunate weekend so far. It’s very disappointing with all these technical problems. The team is working hard to make everything go well. I am also doing my part. I’m trying to get the most out of the car. However, with the current circumstances, we have limited track time. With the changing conditions, it makes things even more complicated and it is difficult to make the most of what we have. It’s an unacceptable situation and we need to change something to solve all these technical problems. »
