Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes that drivers appear as heroes when they act as they see fit. Formula One has been criticized this season for not providing enough spectacle for the fans, however, other concerns have been raised by poor races. The Hungarian Grand Prix provided an exciting spectacle with four drivers in contention until the final laps, and it was Daniel Ricciardo who managed to finish first.

While a think tank has been established to restore the electrifying aspect to F1 in August to discuss ideas that can enhance the spectacle in F1. Horner told ESPN that the recipe for success is simple: « When we focus, we realize that we have a great sport. Formula 1 needs drivers capable of becoming heroes, and today, F1 drivers are at their best. Not just last weekend, but also last week in Germany. »

« That’s what I like, that’s what I like to see, and it’s part of the competition. We must continue to move in this direction » he concluded.

Horner looks back on this race and encourages drivers to have such races: « Sometimes, they manage the races they can handle, but in these conditions like today [in Hungary] just look at Alonso and how fantastic he was today just like Hamilton… he came from the back of the grid, Daniel did an incredible job with a superb strategy. I need to watch this race again to understand it, but this is what Formula 1 should be. We must allow drivers to express themselves more without being criticized. We must allow their personalities to shine through. Drivers have opinions and personalities, and we must encourage them to show these personalities and opinions ».

Red Bull is 2nd in the World Constructors’ Championship with 219 points, trailing Mercedes by 174 points. Daniel Ricciardo is 3rd in the World Championship with 131 points and Sebastian Vettel 6th with 88 points.
