Hamilton compares Rosberg to the Alonso of 2007
In the columns of ESPN, Lewis Hamilton, the new leader of the World Drivers' Championship, compares Nico Rosberg to Fernando Alonso when the latter was at McLaren.

The English driver from Mercedes has just secured a new victory in Spain, which allows him to take the lead in the world drivers’ championship. The two drivers of the Silver Arrows have known each other since their karting days, yet the current leader sees similarities with his 2007 season. The former McLaren driver thus compares his duel with the current Scuderia Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso.
When asked if his experience in the title fight could be useful, the Briton replies in the affirmative, as cited by ESPN: « Yes, I think so, my toughest confrontation with a teammate was with Fernando in 2007, the battle with Nico in Bahrain was also tough. In Spain, it’s certainly the second most complicated race ».
The Englishman reflects on the weekend in Barcelona: « Nico was very fast this weekend; I had no answer to that because I felt uncomfortable on Saturday. I thought it would be better during the race but ultimately it wasn’t. »
Hamilton also developed this comparison with the weekend in Barcelona where he had to face enormous pressure from his German teammate, especially at the end of the race: « When I’m driving, I ask what gap I need. In Bahrain, I knew I needed a ten-second lead, so that’s what I did, and I thought it would be comfortable, and then the safety car came out. In Spain, you don’t have that much advantage with the tires, and I was asking what gap I needed, but I lost that lead during the stops in general. Nico’s stops were in 2.8 seconds to 3 seconds while mine were in 3.8 and 4.5 seconds or something like that, so it was significant. In the last laps, he put a lot of pressure on me and he was very close to snatching [the victory], and I don’t like being in that position! I would like to say ‘yes, it wasn’t a problem, everything was under control,’ but it wasn’t the case. »
