Alonso: “Mercedes is out of reach”
Fernando Alonso admitted that Mercedes is out of reach in the Formula 1 Constructors' Championship. For him, Ferrari must focus on inheriting the runner-up position.

Alonso and Räikkönen finished 6th and 7th respectively at the Spanish GP, while the Mercedes took the top two spots, almost lapping each of them. Currently, Ferrari is 131 points behind first place in the constructors’ championship, solidly held by the German team.
The double world champion believes it is unrealistic to hope to catch up with the Silver Arrows, while setting more modest goals: « We need to do better. Mercedes is out of reach, our goal is to finish second. The race was difficult, the weekend was difficult overall, there were new parts brought in; there is a lack of grip and balance in the car ».
« We cannot be satisfied with finishing far from the leaders. In a way, it makes sense that we are in this situation: since the first races, we finish almost 1 minute behind even with the safety cars. If there were no safety cars, it would have been 1 minute 30, » says the former Renault driver.
It’s been more than a year since Fernando Alonso last won in F1, and the former McLaren driver is well aware of it while looking to the future: « Unfortunately, we’re losing too much time. In 12 months, we’re no longer able to fight for victory; we want to do better. We’ll need to find the right adjustment, but in Monaco we won’t be able to win. We need to focus and work on all areas of the car to make it stronger ».
