Force India – Hülkenberg: Barcelona will be a test for us
As Force India achieves the best season start in its history with a 3rd place in the constructors' championship, Nico Hülkenberg is one of the main contributors to this beginning of the season for the Indian team. He believes that the Spanish Grand Prix will be a major test for the rest of the season to determine the potential of Force India.
Everyone agrees that the F1 season will, in a way, have a fresh start in Spain, during the first European race of the year, which will highlight the development efforts of the cars. Former Sauber driver Nico Hülkenberg expressed Force India’s main goal: “We have our place, and we intend to stay there.”
« The hard work done throughout the winter is paying off, even though we know that in Formula 1 development is always important and it can change from one race to another. We will have to keep working to maintain this place in the hierarchy. » A position earned thanks to the impeccable consistency of the German driver who ranks 4th in the drivers’ standings, having secured two fifth places and two sixth places, while Sergio Pérez, with a podium in Bahrain, is in 10th.
The native of Emmerich am Rhein reflects on his start to the season for our British colleagues at ESPN: « I won’t hide that it went better than we expected after the tests conducted this winter, and it’s good to keep scoring points. I’m in fourth place, and I think that’s already a great achievement. The car has worked very well in all areas, and we have capitalized on the opportunities that have come our way. Consistency is clearly one of our strengths at the moment. »
To conclude, Hülkenberg remains optimistic but reasonably cautious for the Spanish Grand Prix weekend (May 9-11): “We know this circuit by heart, but it remains challenging, with traps,” he said. “It will be very important to find the best possible balance for the car. If you don’t feel completely comfortable, then your lap time is likely to suffer.”
