Red Bull finishes the first day of the Malaysian Grand Prix with the satisfaction of a job well done. The RB10 is not yet the best car on the grid, but reliability is there and the gaps are closing.

Sebastian Vettel (No. 1) – 7th and 3rd

Under the heat of Sepang, the Red Bull RB10 continued its good momentum from Melbourne by having a trouble-free first day of testing: « I think we had a good day. Obviously, Friday is not the most important thing in the world, but it’s always nice to be with the guys at the front. I think we had a decent day, not completely smooth, there are still issues to resolve on the software side but that’s how it is. I think we’ve learned a lot overall, I’m happy. »

Daniel Ricciardo (No. 3) – 12th and 7th

Like Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo expressed satisfaction with his day even though he finished further down the standings. The Australian completed numerous laps that will be valuable for the rest of the weekend: I think we learned a lot about the pace in the short stints this morning. We were quite happy with the progress made. I think we still have room for improvement, but that’s what the evening will be for.

The heat will represent a challenge both for the cars and for the drivers. A challenge that doesn’t scare Ricciardo, who sees the bright side: « The reliability was good so I believe we’re happy with that. It’s always hot here. Humidity is probably the biggest challenge, but it toughens us up. »
