Oscar Piastri expects to start 2024 as McLaren finished 2023
Oscar Piastri expects his McLaren Formula 1 team « to fight for more » in 2024 after its strong end to the season.

After a difficult start with the MCL60, the Woking team introduced a series of successful updates from mid-season onwards that propelled the car up the hierarchy.
The recruit Piastri secured two podium finishes in Grand Prix races and one victory in a sprint race, while his teammate Lando Norris finished among the top three seven times. Piastri hopes that the team will be able to maintain this kind of momentum next season and be competitive right from the start at all circuits.
« I think that as a team, we have experienced much more success in the second half of the year. I believe that we expect to fight for more next year. »
« We will therefore do our best, certainly try to start off a little better than this year. As for me, I feel like I have much more experience under my belt. And I hope I can use it regardless of the position we find ourselves in ».
Piastri acknowledged at the beginning of 2023 that he was struggling during race weekends and pushing too hard in qualifying. This approach changed over the course of the year as he gained more experience.
« I certainly know a lot more now than at the beginning of the year. […] So, I think there is still work to be done for the races. I feel like I’m getting there little by little. But I’m happy with how I’m on the right track. »
Developing what he still has to learn, he declares: « These tires are not easy. This car is not easy in certain conditions. It’s always a new experience at every Grand Prix ».
« Next year, now that I have completed all the circuits with this car, I will know a little more about what to expect. I feel like I have left each race knowing much more than at the beginning. So, I hope it can be a little stronger next year. »
