Hari Roberts joins Mark Smith at Caterham
Former Lotus engineer Hari Roberts takes over the aerodynamics at Caterham, where he will reunite with Mark Smith, the technical director, and John Iley, the performance director, with whom he had previously collaborated, notably at Renault.

In the midst of restructuring, Caterham announced the arrival of Hari Roberts as head of its aero department where he is welcomed with open arms by his former colleague and current technical director of the Leafield team, Mark Smith: “I am delighted that Hari has joined our team, especially because his recruitment allows us to continue the excellent working relationships I have had with him over many years, within teams such as Jordan or Renault. He brings additional skills in a critical area of the team’s development, and having recruited someone of Hari’s caliber as Head of Aerodynamics is a further sign of our owners’ continued commitment to the team’s growth.”
As 2013 shapes up to be a year of transition and consolidation for the Malaysian team, Hari Roberts will be a key element at Caterham in the design of the next generation of Formula 1 and will be able, for this, to rely on the fruits of the investments made to strengthen the technical department: « Hari joins a team that started from scratch just four years ago and now has more than 120 very talented people in our technical office, » says Mark Smith. « We have also invested in key areas such as our scale model designer at Leafield as well as in the ongoing development of our High-Performance Cluster that powers our CFD and simulation tools: all of this will give us the tools we need to compete with the most famous names in motorsport over the coming years. »
For his part, Hari Roberts is delighted to reunite with Mark Smith and thereby contribute to the Caterham project: « I am enthusiastic about the challenge we have ahead with Caterham, and I am thrilled to renew working relationships with Mark [Smith] and to begin a new partnership with the whole team. Caterham has the potential to become a force to be reckoned with in Formula 1, and I am eager to play my part in helping the team realize this potential. »
