Giorgio Ascanelli takes the technical direction of Brembo
The former technical director of Toro Rosso takes the lead of the advanced research and technical development department at Brembo. In 2012, the Italian company supplied its braking systems to half of the teams competing in F1.

Since his departure from Toro Rosso, where he was replaced as technical director by James Key, Giorgio Ascanelli had been the subject of rumors linking him to Ferrari, but it is ultimately at Brembo, at the head of the advanced research and technical development department, that the Italian will make his comeback.
In 2012, the Italian company specialized in braking systems was the official supplier for six of the twelve teams in the race: Red Bull, Ferrari, Mercedes, Sauber, Toro Rosso, and HRT. By hiring Giorgio Ascanelli, Brembo aims to leverage the Italian engineer’s experience to stay at the forefront of technology: « With the arrival of Giorgio Ascanelli, Brembo intends to give new impetus to the company and bring new skills to a sector that has always been its main driving force, while sending a strong signal of continuity to the market, » can be read in the statement released by the Italian manufacturer.
« Indeed, it is precisely through constant investments in Research and Development that Brembo has always succeeded in offering ultra-high-performance products that are at the cutting edge of technology. In the coming years, Brembo will need to introduce radically innovative projects to ensure that the technical side evolves in line with the company’s best traditions while meeting the new demands of the automotive industry. »
Note that each season, Brembo supplies 10 brake calipers per team, 140 to 240 brake discs, and 280 to 480 brake pads.
