Pérez is not thinking about McLaren yet

Sergio Pérez dismissed speculation that his mistake at Suzuka was due to the pressure of being a McLaren driver in 2013 and once again stated that he was fully focused on finishing the season with Sauber, which is aiming for fifth place in the constructors' standings.

In Japan, Sergio Pérez seemed to display an excess of zeal by trying to overtake Lewis Hamilton’s McLaren. This somewhat optimistic maneuver forced the Mexican driver to retire. Should this be seen as a consequence of his transfer to the English team next season and the increased attention he’s receiving? When asked about this in the Yeongam paddock, the current Sauber driver answered in the negative.

« Not really. In a way, I feel more relaxed because now my future is known. I’m not thinking about McLaren at the moment. I’m fully focused on this year to finish every race as high as possible until the last lap I will do for Sauber, then I will start at McLaren, » responds the 22-year-old driver.

The end of the season will not lack stakes for Sauber, which is only 20 points behind Mercedes in 5th place, and hopes to be able to overtake the German team by the end of the race at Interlagos. Beating Mercedes is our main goal, and if we have a good weekend, we have every chance.

With four podiums, Sauber, now led by Monisha Kaltenborn, achieved the best season in its history. Before 2012, the Swiss team had 6 podiums. As for its best final result in the Constructors’ Championship, it was in 2001 with a 4th place finish, and it was not until 2002 that Sauber returned to the Top 5 of the standings.
