Boullier: “We are no longer in contact with Kubica”

This is an interview with Eric Boullier given to the Daily Mail, which would likely put an end to rumors about a potential return of Robert Kubica to Formula 1, at least within Enstone's ranks. Indeed, the French director stated that the two parties were no longer in contact and that their relations had been strained for several months.

On February 6, 2011, shortly before the start of the new Formula 1 season, a terrible rally accident came to steal Robert Kubica’s season. The Polish driver, who was then contracted with Lotus Renault Grand Prix, nearly lost a hand, and thus potentially had to abandon a competitive driving position forever. Many observers at the time speculated on his future in motorsport. After a year and a half of nightmares, marked by surgeries and a new fracture in 2012, the future of the former charismatic leader of the black and gold no longer seems to be with Lotus.

Indeed, even though Eric Boullier had previously assured support for Kubica to recover from his injury and get back in a seat, that period now seems to be over: “He hasn’t been in contact with us for a few months now. Therefore, I can’t consider anything with him since we are no longer in contact,” stated the director of the English team. The latter mentioned a subsequent rift in the months following the accident.

Especially since many things have changed: Eric Boullier has already found a leader fighting for the title in Kimi Räikkönen, while Robert Kubica is gradually returning to Rally. Recently, he has reportedly served as a test driver for the Ford team, alongside Jari-Matti Latvala and Petter Solberg. A new career seems to be opening up for the former great hope of Formula 1, who, however, has only one victory in this discipline.
