Winner of the Macau Grand Prix, Luke Browning can dream of a chance with Williams in F1
The British driver, a member of the Williams Driver Academy, dominated the Macau GP last weekend by securing pole position and a victory in the main race. He now hopes to have the opportunity to drive for Williams in Formula 1.

Having recently driven behind the wheel of a 2021 Aston Martin after winning last year’s BRDC Young Driver of the Year Award, he says he is ready to put pressure on Williams to get an opportunity, perhaps even during a free practice session.
Browning’s victory in Macao marks the end of a challenging season, during which he did not achieve the desired results in F3 with Hitech. His best result of the year was a second place finish in the sprint race of the Spanish GP, and he finished the year in 15th place in the standings. However, he wishes to return to this category next year and regain the form he showed throughout the Macao weekend.
I will ask the team as many times as possible, and I will pick up the phone. But there is a hierarchical order in all of this, and they will have their reasons.
The driver reflects on his difficult year. “To be honest, this year has been very tough in terms of results in F3,” he said. “But I think it was clear, for anyone who watched and analyzed the details, that the pace we had compared to our position in the championship was the strongest. It was completely crazy.”
However, he doesn’t let himself get discouraged and promises that next season will be his. But I’m telling you, I don’t think anyone has learned anything before Macao and next season. The plan is that I want to shut up this F3, even if I haven’t confirmed and signed yet.
Browning added that he was proud to be part of those who won the Macau Grand Prix. « Of course, it’s a confidence booster. When you win in Macau, alongside previous winners like Ayrton Senna, having my name on the list feels somewhat surreal ».
More generally, he is aware of the luck he has to be able to be a pilot. But it was already surreal to go there. I had never been to China or Macao before, so getting off the plane, finding myself in a completely new place at the other end of the world and playing with such high-quality margins, it’s amazing. But I loved every minute of it and I am very grateful to have won.
