Sunday: A mixed result for the Caterham drivers

Even though Vitaly Petrov and Heikki Kovalainen had said they were delighted with the balance displayed by the CT01 at the end of qualifying, the two men seem quite disappointed this afternoon. The entire team is now looking forward to the summer break, which will provide clarity on the difficulties faced this Sunday in Hungary.

Heikki Kovalainen – 17th

« For me, it was a decent race. I got a good start which allowed me to be in 16th position in the first lap. We then maintained a good pace throughout the race. We are realistic about the car’s performance, but the balance and setups were still very good this weekend.

I am also very happy with the way we managed the tires, and the strategy worked perfectly. The Hungaroring is a track that makes overtaking difficult, which explains why we weren’t able to overtake in certain areas, but I feel that the car performed well and the team did an excellent job.

I will continue to keep busy during the summer break: lots of training, getting back in shape, spending time with friends, and I’m looking forward to starting the second part of the season.

Vitaly Petrov – 19th

« Overall, this Grand Prix was a valuable lesson for the team. During the race, the car was very different from how it was in qualifying, and we need to understand what caused the issue by looking at the data. It’s quite strange because we had improved our performance, yet during the race, I didn’t feel the same. We tried several settings this weekend, and we now know what works and what doesn’t.

I think the team worked really well this weekend, and I was eagerly anticipating this summer break. I hope everyone can get proper rest, and I’m looking forward to getting back on the tracks.
