While Max Verstappen has just achieved his 18th victory of the season in Las Vegas, the organizers of the Grand Prix are not done with paperwork. A renowned law firm in Nevada has filed a lawsuit against the event organizers. During the first two practice sessions, Carlos Sainz’s accident resulted in the permanent stoppage of Free Practice 1 after 10 minutes. As for FP2, there was a delay of more than 2 hours and 30 minutes due to track maintenance work (sewer drain filling).

The spectators hadn’t even been able to attend the second session due to security and staffing issues. While the event was supposed to last 2 hours and 30 minutes due to delays, the fans were directed to exit at 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The cabinet condemns the non-reimbursement

Following this problem, the organizers of the Grand Prix took the initiative: a press release was issued and compensation was provided to the public. However, this compensation received by the spectators is simply a 200$ (190€) voucher to be used at the event’s shop.

In the face of this situation, the law firm Dimopoulos has partnered with JK Legal & Consulting to file a lawsuit. This legal action represents the 30,000 spectators present during the two practice sessions. It is specified that the lawsuit alleges breach of contract, negligence, and deceptive business practices against the defendants, who are the organizers of the GP and TAB Contractors Inc, the company involved in track maintenance.

Organizational problems

Lawyer Steve Dimopoulos has already spoken on the subject. He is well-known in the city of Vegas, with his established law firm there. We will assert the rights of the fans who have traveled long distances and paid small fortunes to attend, but who were deprived of this experience. The F1 and/or its subcontractors and security organizations had the duty to inspect the track to ensure it was safe for use by the drivers and ready for the race for the “practice” event, and they failed to detect the defects and/or improper installation of the cover sealed by TAB and failed to ensure that the track was ready for the race for the event.

In this context, the legal action seeks a refund for the ticket holders as well as damages. The plaintiffs are claiming damages for mental anguish in an amount to be determined by the jury, which is fair and reasonable considering the deliberate, reckless, and intentional behavior of the defendant, as specified in the complaint.

The F1 is racing against time

The Autosport media approached the Formula 1 organizers, in vain. However, a spokesperson for the Las Vegas Grand Prix described the situation. We cannot comment on the dispute. Our goal is to ensure that our fans have an entertaining experience in a safe and secure environment, which is always our top priority.

Despite a race full of twist and turns on Sunday, Las Vegas is expected to leave a bitter taste due to these off-field issues.
