Max Verstappen: “It was difficult, I had to overtake quite a few cars.”

Starting second on the grid, Max Verstappen won the first Grand Prix of Las Vegas, a new edition. And yet, it was not an easy task, for once.

Max Verstappen singing “Viva Las Vegas” in his white Elvis jumpsuit after all the criticism he launched at the circuit is as cynical as his 18th victory this season. And yet, this win was much less easy than all the others this season.

The Dutchman had to fight right from the start and the lead of the race changed much more frequently than usual this year, with, at several moments, the impression that the victory would go to Charles Leclerc, or even briefly to Sergio Pérez.

“It was difficult. I tried to take my chances from the start, but I lacked traction. It put us in a difficult position, resulted in a penalty, and I had to overtake quite a few cars. There was already a lot happening,” he explained.

“The DRS was very powerful, even when you took the lead, the guy behind could come back on you. It’s never ideal to have damages, but thankfully, we were still able to win the race,” he said, reassured by the outcome of the Las Vegas Grand Prix.
