Webber wants equal treatment compared to Vettel
By securing his second victory of the season at the British Grand Prix last weekend, Mark Webber becomes the number one challenger to Fernando Alonso, who is currently leading the World Championship standings. As such, he is asking his team to treat him fairly in comparison to his teammate Sebastian Vettel.

After his victory at Silverstone in 2010, Mark Webber exclaimed over the radio to his team after crossing the line: « Not bad for a number two driver. » At that time, the Australian did not feel he was on equal footing with his teammate Sebastian Vettel, and he made it known to as many people as possible, especially since Vettel, who had suffered an incident during practice, was able to use Webber’s upgraded front wing for the race, while Webber had to make do with the previous version.
This year, Webber once again won the British Grand Prix, and he does not hesitate to ask for equal treatment from his team. He told the Australian newspaper The Age: “Red Bull knows that the championship this year is very open, so they do not have the luxury of seeing how the season might unfold if they focus only on one driver.”
When the journalist asks him if he thinks he will be treated equally with Sebastian Vettel, he confidently replies: « Yes, I believe so, definitely! » An opinion shared by Helmut Marko who states: « There is no hierarchy in the team. The drivers can race freely. » On his side, Christian Horner is delighted to be in such a situation: « Having two drivers competing for the title is quite a pleasant headache. »
Is the pressure now on Vettel’s shoulders? After the British Grand Prix, the German daily Bild wrote that the reigning double world champion was nothing more than a number two now. To which Vettel responded that it was still too early to count points.
