Alpine’s “experiments” tested during the Las Vegas Grand Prix are hindering the French team

Sixth in the constructors' standings, in a no man's land, well behind Aston Martin and ahead of Williams, Alpine F1 Team is taking advantage of the last two Grand Prix of the season to test new upgrades for 2024. However, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon are currently struggling to adapt to them.

The Alpine F1 Team is implementing new components on the A523 car in preparation for the upcoming season. These components are being used during the Las Vegas Grand Prix, as well as for the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi next week. However, these new parts are not intended to improve the performance of the car for the last two races of the season.

During the second free practice session, the first one having lasted only ten minutes due to Carlos Sainz’s accident, Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon recorded the 15th and 16th best times. The number 31 driver even had to change a part of his chassis after the sewer incident in FP1.

I hope we can make something out of it.

After the EL2, Pierre Gasly talked about his difficulties adapting to these new improvements on his car. The Norman remains convinced that his team is focusing on next year.

“It has been quite challenging so far. On my side of the garage, we are conducting experiments for next year’s car, so we are trying different setups and attempting to find answers and a direction for next year. It’s not the most enjoyable track at the moment, but I hope we can make something out of it,” said Pierre Gasly.

I don’t think we are really paying attention to this track, so we will probably make compromises this weekend. But we know it serves a broader purpose, especially for next year. We are trying to make the most of what we have. It was a bit challenging today, continued the Frenchman.

The technical director of the blue and pink team, Matt Harman, detailed the various adjustments and improvements on the race car for the upcoming season.

We have some experiences that we are going to attempt this weekend. They are related to some of the work we have recently accomplished, which has shown us the direction we want to take. We had components manufactured at the factory for the weekend, which was an excellent response from the factory because I wanted to try something completely different during this event. I am excited to see what I will see, explained Matt Harman.

« You will not see it in the lap times, but you will see it in the data. And I think it’s another one of those things that will help us with aerodynamic alignment, sensitivity, and the weight of our aerodynamics on the car. But also with some of the mechanical systems at the back of the car that really control how these cars can go through corners, which is important,” continued the technical director of Alpine.
