Former F1 driver Hans-Joachim Stuck sees the rumor of Fernando Alonso joining Red Bull coming true

Fourth driver in the constructor championship, with 198 points and 8 podium finishes, Fernando Alonso is one of the best this season, behind the wheel of his Aston Martin. However, some, like former German F1 driver Hans-Joachim Stuck, would like to see the Spaniard drive for Red Bull.

A few weeks ago, a rumor emerged about Fernando Alonso joining Red Bull for the next season. It surfaced because Sergio Perez’s seat for 2024 would be in jeopardy, despite his contract with the Austrian team lasting until the end of the following season, due to a series of poor performances by the Mexican driver.

At the same time, Fernando Alonso was going through a slump with Aston Martin. Between the Netherlands Grand Prix and the Brazil Grand Prix, from August 27th to November 5th, the two-time world champion did not achieve any podium finishes. The Spaniard only scored 14 points from Monza to Mexico, with two consecutive retirements in Austin and Mexico on October 22nd and 29th. It was at this moment that rumors of Alonso’s departure from Aston Martin began to circulate, rumors that were quickly denied by the British team and the forty-year-old driver.

« Alonso could achieve a lot at Red Bull »

These rumors started to lose steam after Alonso’s eighth podium of the season, celebrated with joy by the Spaniard and his team in Interlagos two weeks ago, and given Sergio Perez’s gaining ground on Lewis Hamilton’s third place in the driver’s championship. The Mexican has a 32-point lead over the British driver, with two races left in the championship. However, Hans-Joachim Stuck, a former F1 driver from the 70s who is 72 years old, would like to see the double world champion drive for Red Bull.

« Pérez is doing an excellent job and is clearly number two. This situation obviously helps Red Bull as there is peace within the team. But if Red Bull recruits a driver like Alonso, the team can improve a bit. At some point, the time will come when the competition will be tighter again. It would then be an advantage to have two hot irons in the fire. In my opinion, Alonso in particular could achieve a lot at Red Bull, stated Hans-Joachim Stuck in an interview with Eurosport media.

The way Alonso drives, the way he fights, is largely impeccable and also helps the team move forward, I would say he would be very, very close to Verstappen, closer than Pérez anyway, there is no doubt about it for me, praised the former F1 driver.

« There are only a handful of people I trust to drive at the level of Verstappen, and Alonso is one hundred percent one of them. I just think this guy is brilliant. We know each other very well. He has the motivation, he loves it. Moreover, he has the necessary maturity to perfectly use his skills at the right moment. It’s truly impressive. For me, he definitely belongs in the top 5 in Formula 1, emphasized the German.
