Sauber is carbon neutral
F1 is often criticized as being too polluting. To address this image of a polluting industry, various teams have committed to a sustainable development process with specialized organizations. The latest is Sauber, which has just become carbon neutral thanks to its partnership with Carbon Neutral Investments.

This announcement from the Swiss team comes a little less than a month after receiving the international ISO14001 certification, the benchmark in the field of environmental compliance at all levels of the company. Furthermore, Sauber established a significant cooperation with Oerlikon at the start of the season to set up a solar park at its headquarters in Hinwil.
The partnership established today with Carbon Neutral Investments provides funding for projects that will eliminate as much greenhouse gas as the team creates with all its activities. These activities include both the energy expenditures of the Swiss headquarters and the transportation of the team’s equipment to all corners of the world.
Monisha Kaltenborn, the CEO of Sauber, stated: “We attach great importance to carbon offsetting, which is a consequence of the environmental policy we have adopted. This allows us to make a significant contribution to the environment. In Carbon Neutral Investments, we have found the ideal partner to implement these efforts. The certification of our environmental management system less than a month ago was an important milestone to achieve our environmental objectives and is now followed by a new step with our commitment to offset carbon. The next major milestone will occur when our solar park at the company’s headquarters in Hinwil becomes operational this summer.”
Carbon Neutral Investments is indeed familiar with F1, as the company has already collaborated in the field with McLaren, which became the first F1 team to be completely carbon neutral for all of its activities last January.
