Silverstone builds two additional grandstands
Like Melbourne at the start of the season, Silverstone is facing very high demand. To address this, the British circuit has decided to build two additional grandstands, with a total capacity of 3,500 seats.

If some events like Shanghai are held in front of desperately empty stands, others sell out every year. For instance, last year, Silverstone had no trouble filling up, attracting more than 120,000 people.
The BRDC (the circuit’s owner) believes that the same performance should be repeated this season as ticket sales have increased by 10% compared to the same period last year.
One of the reasons that might explain such a surge in purchases by fans is that McLaren and its two British drivers, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, are experiencing a very strong start to the season and are expected to be very serious contenders for the world championship title at the end of the season.
Richard Phillips, the managing director of the circuit, states: “We had a fantastic crowd over the three days of last year’s British Grand Prix and the interest for this year’s race is even greater. Increasing our capacity will allow more fans to experience the spectacle, excitement, and suspense of Formula One at Silverstone. We are proud to do everything we can to provide the best experience for fans: with grandstands and general admission areas offering an exceptional view of the track, top-notch facilities, and lots of entertainment off the track, fans can look forward to another fantastic three days at this year’s British Grand Prix.”
Silverstone indeed offers the possibility of being right next to the track without necessarily being in the stands. A large lawn allows spectators to watch the cars exit the pit straight and dive into the legendary Copse – Maggotts – Becketts sequence. This year, the organizers have introduced a special offer that provides four general admission tickets for the price of three. This will likely attract a larger number of spectators to the event, which will undoubtedly enhance the economic impact for the entire region.
