Senna has only one year contract with Williams
Brazilian driver Bruno Senna confirmed that he only has a one-year contract with the Williams team.
Bruno Senna confirmed that his contribution of nearly 14 million euros only secured him a place in Formula 1, with the Williams team, for the 2012 season.
He therefore finds himself in the same situation as his compatriot Felipe Massa at Ferrari, whose contract ends at the end of the current season. Is there then a risk of not seeing a single Brazilian driver in the discipline from 2013? Senna doesn’t think so: « All drivers, Brazilian or not, are under pressure for results. Of course, it’s important to have Brazilian drivers in Formula 1. But we will always do our best, regardless of the contract duration. »
This pressure is in any case very present on Bruno’s shoulders, who will once again have to prove this year that he deserves to stay in the top category of motorsport: « I think I am at the beginning of my career, and with good work this year, I could extend my contract. And if God wills, continue to get better in the future. Last year, at the same time, all I could do was work on my physical condition, but now, I am behind the wheel of the car, collaborating with the team’s engineers, and that’s what makes all the difference for me this off-season. »
Senna’s main goal this year will, of course, be to score points regularly: « All the teams have made a leap forward. And I think Force India, Toro Rosso, and Sauber will be very strong. Lotus and Mercedes are also doing well, unlike Ferrari which seems to lack performance. Unless they’re hiding their true potential. But it seems that McLaren and Red Bull are ahead of everyone else. »
The Brazilian, on the other hand, is quite impressed by Caterham’s performance during the winter tests: « I think the biggest surprise comes from Caterham, which seems to have a reasonable performance. So it will be very interesting to see what happens at the beginning of the season. »
