At the beginning of the week, the FIA introduced a measure allowing any race official to limit the speed in the pit lane during the race to only 60 km/h if deemed necessary. Under pressure from the teams, the FIA, through Charlie Whiting, announced that the regulatory change regarding the maximum speed in the pit lane was ultimately abandoned.

After consultation with the Formula 1 teams, none saw the need to change this part of the regulations, which did not compromise overall safety at the Grand Prix.

The teams put pressure on the FIA, which seemed to impose this new regulation a little late; just a few weeks before the opening of the 2012 F1 championship, on March 18 in Melbourne, for the Australian Grand Prix.

Note that currently the speed in the pits is limited to 60km/h during free practice, while during qualifying and the race, the speed is increased to 100km/h.
