Kevin Magnussen on his collision in Brazil: “It’s a bit frustrating.”

Victim of a collision with his teammate Nico Hülkenberg and Alex Albon, Kevin Magnussen was forced to retire in the very first lap. A frustrating end for the Danish driver, who had a good feeling to score some points.

12th on the grid, with his teammate 11th ahead of him, the Haas drivers were hoping to score points in this race towards the middle and back of the field. Alex Albon, 13th, also had a chance for a top 10 finish at Interlagos. However, a collision between the three drivers at the start ended their chances. Kevin Magnussen and Alex Albon were unable to continue. Only Nico Hülkenberg was able to continue his race and finished a disappointing 12th, more than a lap behind leader Max Verstappen. Another opportunity for Haas to score points this weekend ended in a terrible disappointment, once again.

Magnussen thought he had the pace

If we can talk about disappointment, it’s because for once, Kevin Magnussen felt good behind the wheel of his Haas before the start, with a confidence he hadn’t had since several races.

“I had a good feeling with the car on the soft tire during the grid laps. I had a good start,” said Magnussen. Indeed, Haas had shown some positive signs in qualifying by being close to the top 10 at the start. With a bit of luck, the team could have hoped to score some points at the end of the race.”

I was telling my engineer that it could be a good race because I had a very positive feeling in the car. It’s tough. Unlucky. I hit the wall twice without it being my fault. It’s a bit frustrating. Once again, Magnussen misses an opportunity to score points, he who still has 3 points, compared to 9 for his teammate.

Nevertheless, the Danish is confident for the next race, on the new track in Las Vegas. « You have to move on to the next race, and the next race is in Las Vegas. I can’t wait to see it. »

Unlucky Albon

On the other hand, Williams driver Alex Albon found himself trapped. After a good start, immediately moving to the outside of the track, the Thai driver was hit by Hülkenberg, putting an end to his hopes of scoring points. “I don’t think I could have done anything else. I was as far as possible. I think the Haas on the left was slightly caught off guard, he crossed a little, squeezed in between the other Haas, and that was it,” he concluded.

For these drivers, there are two races left to determine the standings at the bottom of the table. If Haas is in last position with 12 points, Williams will have to hold off AlphaTauri’s comeback, who are just 7 points behind the British team.
