Rubens Barrichello and IndyCar: it’s almost done!
The appointment of Bruno Senna to the Williams F1 Team has brought an end to Rubens Barrichello's 323 Grand Prix and 19-year career in Formula 1. However, the Brazilian could make a comeback in the IndyCar championship in the United States.
Following a test organized on January 30th in a KV Racing Technology single-seater at Sebring, Rubens Barrichello seems increasingly interested in taking part in the 2012 IndyCar season, which will begin on March 25th in Florida.
Indeed, he greatly appreciated this new experience: « I took immense pleasure in driving this car and I still have a great passion for speed. The test days were very productive as we were able to test several settings. You could say I’m a beginner even though I’ve been doing this job for 33 years. Even though this single-seater is different from those I’ve driven before, I had good sensations! », stated the driver on the official championship site organized by the Indy Racing League.
It is in this regard that the American team and the former Williams driver wish to continue negotiations. Nevertheless, there are still some details to perfect before a potential signing: « Putting a second car on the track is expensive, and we therefore need to find partners to gather a complete budget », added Rubinho, actively seeking sponsors.
The problems are not only financial but also personal. His wife Silvana indeed seems worried about the idea of her husband racing on oval tracks, especially following the tragic death of Dan Wheldon in Las Vegas: « Of course, the fear is in each of us. I have discussed the matter with Silvana, and my decision might go against her wishes. Racing on oval tracks would be a great challenge for me and something fascinating.
I also don’t want to return to Brazil and just watch the races on television. I want to be on the track, taking risks and having fun! », concluded Barrichello, more enthusiastic than ever.
