Austin will not be replaced in case of cancellation

The return of the United States Grand Prix in 2012 is not yet certain, and if the race is postponed by a year, Bernie Ecclestone has stated that it will not be replaced, leaving a calendar with 19 races next season.

The holding of a Formula 1 Grand Prix in Austin is still uncertain, and Bernie Ecclestone has already settled the question of a possible replacement – it will be no. The FOM boss stated during the Brazilian Grand Prix that if the organizers were not ready in time for 2012, no other race would replace them.

The principal financial officer of Formula 1 responds indirectly to the teams’ wishes not to overload the calendar. If Austin is unable to host an F1 race, the calendar will only include 19 races. Turkey, which was at one point mentioned as a replacement for Austin in case of cancellation, is not an option for Ecclestone according to L’Equipe.

Everyone should be pleased with this (having only 19 races) I think. Teams complain that there are too many races, so we’re going to solve the problem, Ecclestone said in Brazil.

The Briton also revealed that the South Korean and Bahrain Grand Prix would take place even though doubts have emerged in recent weeks: « We have a contract with them (South Korea). They have a contract and we will go there. »

Same story for Bahrain: We have a contract with Bahrain. We will be there.
