An update on the contracts for the Formula 1 Grand Prix on the calendar
Several Grand Prix races have announced their extension until 2023, including the one in Brazil this week. Here is a summary of the contracts between the races/promoters and the FOM.

The end of the 2023 season is approaching. Currently, there are two circuits that have not extended beyond 2024 (before the Brazilian Grand Prix). Here is the list, organized according to the 2024 calendar, providing an update on the circuits’ contracts.
Bahrain Grand Prix until 2036
The circuit that opens the World Championship since 2021 (the pandemic in 2020 had postponed its schedule) is not likely to be removed from the program anytime soon. The race that takes place at the Sakhir circuit made its debut in 2001. In February 2022, the FIA and the GP organizers reached a unique contract, extending the presence of F1 in Bahrain until 2036.
Saudi Arabia’s Grand Prix signs 10-year deal
Saudi Arabia made its debut in the world of Formula 1 in 2021. Upon their arrival, the leaders of the Corniche Circuit in Jeddah signed a 10-year contract. To secure a spot on the FIA calendar, the Grand Prix collaborated with the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation. Currently, the race is scheduled to take place until the end of 2030.
Australia peaceful until 2037
The Australian Grand Prix currently holds the longest contract with the FIA. The history between motor racing and the Oceanian country is 95 years old. The first motor race took place in the territory in 1928. Finally, Formula 1 appeared in Australia in 1985. Initially, the race took place in Adelaide, before the Grand Prix was moved to Albert Park, a suburb of Melbourne, in 1995.
For many years, Australia was the country that hosted the World Championship before Bahrain took over in 2021. In June 2022, the FIA and race organizers reached an agreement that extended until 2035. In December, it was finally announced that the contract would run until 2037.
The latest in Japan?
It’s a new development in 2024, the Japanese Grand Prix will take place during the 4th round of the championship. However, currently, it is possible that the cars will race for the last time at Suzuka. Last year, the organizers of the Japanese race extended the contract for one more year, until 2024. In 2023, no agreement was reached for this iconic Formula 1 circuit. The contract between Red Bull and Honda ends in 2025, so its extension may have been initially affected. However, Japan remains a secure market for the FIA, in addition to the uniqueness of the circuit.
The return of the Chinese Grand Prix
China will make its return to the calendar in 2024. After cancellations since 2020 due to the Covid context, it is expected to be scheduled at least until 2025. The Shanghai International Circuit and the FIA have extended their collaboration for four seasons in 2021.
Miami Grand Prix until 2031
Inaugurated in 2022, the American track is tied to Formula 1 for 10 seasons. The show is not up to par, but it is one of the races that brings in the most revenue on the calendar. The single-seaters will be present until at least 2031.
Imola remains until 2025
Back on the calendar since the Covid crisis, the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari has signed a contract until 2025. Between 2006 and 2021, the circuit based in San Marino had not seen a Formula 1 race. The contract runs for the next two seasons. Its cancellation in 2023 due to bad weather could allow the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix to be scheduled in 2026.
The Monaco Grand Prix scheduled for another two years
This is one of, if not the most iconic circuit. Every driver dreams of winning this race. In 2022, the leaders of the FIA and the GP reached an agreement until 2025. There are still two seasons left to extend one of the oldest races in automotive history.
Canada will be on the agenda until 2031
The Canadian Grand Prix has extended its agreement with the FIA for an additional eight seasons. The North American race has often been absent from schedules. Eager to remain on the list of events for as long as possible, the organizers signed a contract until 2029 in 2017. However, the cancellations caused by Covid have strengthened the contract by two additional years.
Spain will host until 2026
Since the end of 2021, the Spanish Grand Prix has been extended until 2026. It hasn’t been easy for the organizers, who had to deal with low financial income. However, an agreement has been reached. Nevertheless, the circuit still needs to be renovated and improved.
Red Bull at home for 7 years
The Austrian Grand Prix will remain on the calendar until 2030. In 2023, the contract was officially unveiled after a year of uncertainty about the duration of the extension. The popularity of Red Bull has allowed for a long-term renewal.
Silverstone under threat
Just like the Japanese Grand Prix, the British Grand Prix is in jeopardy. No agreement has been reached since 2019. Currently, 2024 would be the last season at Silverstone. However, the historical and unique aspect of the circuit could allow for an extension.
Budapest scheduled until 2032
In 2023, an agreement between the race organizers and the FIA was announced for a five-year extension, on a contract that already ran until 2027. Soon, the Hungaroring is expected to undergo works and new developments.
Belgium planned until 2025
The Belgian Grand Prix is extended until 2025, but beyond that, everything remains uncertain. In 2022, the organizers managed to extend the lease for two years. However, Spa-Francorchamps is under strong pressure. The FIA is demanding modernization, and other countries, capable of offering a new track, are positioning themselves in ambush. The race relies on the uniqueness of the circuit and the recent shows it has offered. A alternating contract with France could also be established. The French have seen their race disappear from the calendar for financial reasons.
An agreement could facilitate the maintenance of Belgium and the return of the French.
Quiet Zandvoort for a moment?
The Dutch Grand Prix is scheduled for the next two seasons. The agreement was officially announced in December 2022. However, Max’s importance to the FIA and the high attendance in the stands could greatly help the circuit to be maintained for several years.
Monza planned for 2025
The Italian Grand Prix is planned for at least two more seasons. One year has recently been added. For the future, the GP organizers and circuit directors are heavily modernizing the complex. They are also counting on the historical connection with Ferrari, a leading car manufacturer in motorsport.
Azerbaijan on the calendar until 2026
The Baku city circuit will be used by Formula 1 until 2026. A three-year extension has been announced this season.
The Magic of Marina Bay until 2028
The Singapore Grand Prix, which hosted the first night race in history, is scheduled to continue for the next five seasons. In 2022, a contract for an additional seven years was signed.
Austin maintained until 2026
The Circuit of the Americas will host a GP for the next three seasons. The popularity of “Drive to Survive” in the United States (as well as worldwide) has greatly influenced the favor of the Grand Prix of the Americas. The United States represents a colossal market share of F1. The contract has been extended at least until 2026.
Two more seasons in Mexico
The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez should not be in danger. The contract had been extended for at least two years in 2022. The circuit’s uniqueness and the atmosphere in the stands are strong attractions.
Brazil for 7 more seasons
In the middle of GP weekend, the FIA announced the extension of its collaboration with São Paulo until 2030. Rumors suggested that the race could have been moved to Rio. However, the contract binds Interlagos and F1 for seven more years.
The Elastic Contract of Las Vegas
Las Vegas makes its appearance on the calendar in 2023. It’s a brand new track that has been added to the schedule. Initially, the agreement between the two parties covers three seasons. However, the Las Vegas Urban Circuit could see its tenure extended for up to 10 additional years.
F1 in Qatar until 2032
The race made its appearance on the calendar in 2021. Before the start of the first Qatari GP, a ten-year contract had been signed. The connection between the FIA and the circuit will remain until 2032.
Abu Dhabi planned until 2030
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has been the finale of the World Championship since 2021. Subsequently, a 10-season contract had been signed between the organizers and the FIA. In its first year as the season closer, the Yas Marina circuit witnessed an epic race between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen.
Other races could be added to the schedule or simply replace circuits at the end of their contracts.
