Alpine made a big move by securing the services of Eric Meignan. He is a well-known name in the Formula 1 industry as he has previously worked for Ferrari and also Mercedes. After a few months on standby due to a non-compete clause, Meignan will be the technical director of Alpine’s engine division. Upon arriving at Viry-Châtillon, the base camp of Alpine’s F1 factory, he is expected to bring his experience to improve an underperforming engine. Indeed, 2026 marks the arrival of new regulations regarding power units, an opportunity that Alpine cannot afford to miss if they want to be competitive in Formula 1 by then.

« We are very happy to welcome Eric to Viry and I think he will bring a lot because he has a long experience in Formula 1. I think he will challenge our team. He comes at the right time to challenge our guys and better prepare for the PU 2026 generation. I am very confident that he will do a very good job with all the guys from Viry. He has already started and I think it will bear fruit very quickly », said Bruno Famin, the team principal of Alpine.

It will be strong technical support. We already have good technicians in Viry, but I think having a full-time technical director on site will really help everyone.

With Meignan’s arrival, Famin will have more time to focus on his new position. The Frenchman has taken on the duties of Otmar Szafnauer, three months after his departure. “Of course. I have a lot of things that I need to concentrate on,” Famin explained, regarding his own role and how Meignan will assist him.
