Coughlan is the new technical director of Williams
Mike Coughlan has been appointed Technical Director of the Williams team recently, as announced by Adam Parr, one of the officials of the Williams F1 team. Coughlan replaces Sam Michael, who competed in his last race with the British team in South Korea.

Mike Coughlan is not a stranger in Formula 1; he notably worked for McLaren from 2002 to 2007 and during this period, he was part of a large espionage scandal with Nigel Stepney, who worked for Ferrari at the time. He was suspended and then fired from the McLaren team following this affair.
But Coughlan managed to bounce back afterwards; he notably worked with Stefan GP, which hoped to enter F1 in 2010, then he joined the Michael Waltrip Racing team in NASCAR before joining Williams at the beginning of May this year.
Sam Michael, who held the position of technical director at Williams since 2004, will join McLaren starting next season, and Coughlan has therefore been appointed in his place.
Our new technical team is notably composed of Mike Coughlan, who has just been confirmed as Technical Director. Mike joined us in June, Adam Parr stated during a press conference in India.
