Leimer and Gutierrez with Sauber in Abu Dhabi
Fabio Leimer and Esteban Gutierrez will have the opportunity to drive the Sauber C30 in Abu Dhabi during the young drivers' test. The two men, who were opponents this season in GP2, will drive for the Swiss team from November 15 to 17 - Gutierrez is expected to drive for two of the three days and Leimer for one day.
It’s not a surprise to see Esteban Gutierrez being chosen by Sauber for the young driver tests as the Mexican has been the test and reserve driver for the Swiss team for two seasons now. It is therefore normal for the team to give him track time behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car.
For Fabio Leimer, it will be an excellent opportunity to compare himself to Gutierrez and also a good experience aboard a Formula 1 car. The 22-year-old Swiss driver is eager to drive the Swiss team’s car and experience the thrills of a Formula 1 car for the first time.
When I realized that I was really going to take part in the Formula 1 tests, I understood for the first time what it truly meant. As a race driver, you obviously always dream of Formula One. The fact that this dream is going to become a reality is something incredible. Moreover, very few Swiss drivers have had the chance to drive for the Sauber F1 Team. That’s why it will be an even more special honor for me to make my first F1 laps as a Swiss for a Swiss team.
