Sunday: One more point for Sauber thanks to Perez

The Sauber team hoped to score big points today at the Singapore Grand Prix, but things didn't go as planned. A strategy error ruined Kamui Kobayashi's race, who then received a penalty. His teammate, Sergio Perez, still managed to limit the damage by finishing 10th, allowing the Swiss team to score at least one point.

Sergio Perez – 10th

I think tenth was the best we could do today. I was on a two-stop strategy, starting on the super softs and switching to the softs after 15 laps. For my second stop, I had to pit a bit earlier because I had a puncture following the incident with Michael (Schumacher), and then I had to do a very long stint – a little over half the race in fact – with the second set of soft tires. I think Michael was too optimistic with his overtaking attempt. It’s a shame to have lost a place to Felipe (Massa) at the end of the race, but my tires were done, and I couldn’t defend anymore. We’ll keep fighting for sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship.

Kamui Kobayashi – 14th

«It was a difficult weekend for me. Our pace was good throughout the weekend, but during the race, due to traffic and a strategic error when the safety car came out, it didn’t work out. I was very surprised to receive a penalty because I didn’t see any blue flags. »

Giampaolo Dall’Ara – Chief Race Engineer

I can’t say I’m happy with a point, as we hoped to do a bit better than what we actually did. Unfortunately, the safety car did not arrive at the right time for us. Given that, I think Sergio did his best. I have to be honest and say that we shouldn’t have brought Kamui in during the safety car intervention, but anyway, I don’t think he could have scored points today. From a performance standpoint, I think we are better than what we could see, but we just didn’t manage to get out of traffic when we encountered it.
