Saturday: Sauber satisfied despite Kobayashi’s accident

A mixed Q2 for the Swiss team: certainly, Sergio Pérez was very close to entering the top 10, but Kamui Kobayashi had a scare by ending up in the wall in the Singapore Sling.

Sergio Pérez – 11th and 11th

« Overall, I am happy with our qualifying performance today, even though it’s a shame we didn’t reach Q3 as it was very tight. My lap in Q2 wasn’t really perfect, in fact, the one in Q1 was better because I had more traction. Nevertheless, I am confident for tomorrow because we have a good race pace. The track is very technical and a driver can easily make a mistake or make a difference. I sincerely believe that I will finish in the points tomorrow ».

Kamui Kobayashi – 9th and 17th

« I ended up in the wall in Q2 and the accident is my fault. I feel very sorry for the team. I took too much curb in turn 10, the car took off and I went out. I saw a chance to go into Q3, but it didn’t work out. I was taken to the medical center and was surprised by the attention they gave me during the check-up. However, I am fine physically. I will do my best tomorrow to fight for points and offer something to the team ».

Peter Sauber, team director

« Our cars are fast, so that’s positive. Sergio is driving here for the first time, but he delivered a very good performance. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to make it to Q3. Kamui’s performances were good enough to get him into the top 10, but he missed his chance when he went over the curbs too much and the car went off the track ».
