Formula 1 continues to be at its peak on Canal+. The Mexican Grand Prix was broadcasted on two channels: Canal+ 360 for subscribers and C8 (a member of the Canal group) for free. At the start of the race, Canal+ recorded a peak of 2.71 million viewers. Throughout the entire race, the average was 1.86 million viewers.

With these ratings, C8 channel was the 5th national channel on Sunday, October 29th. A peak of 917,000 viewers on the TNT channel was recorded. Among the TNT viewers, 9.8% of 18-24 year olds and 5.9% of men under 50 watched the race on C8.

A remarkable season

From the start of the season, the Canal+ group had achieved its 3rd best audience. In Abu Dhabi, the media had an average of 1.74 million viewers. The race was also broadcast on C8 and Canal+. The peak reached was estimated at 2.01 million people.

For the two Grand Prix in July, the encrypted channel obtained four out of its five highest ratings thanks to Formula 1. During the Belgian Grand Prix, Canal+ obtained a 6% share according to Médiamétrie’s survey. The peak audience was estimated at 595,000 viewers between the program “La Grille” and the race. The sprint at Spa-Francorchamps was the second most-watched broadcast by Canal+ in July.

The Hungarian Grand Prix had the 3rd highest audience share among encrypted media, with 3.5% during race hours. 407,000 people had watched the race on their TVs.

Despite Max Verstappen’s overwhelming dominance, Canal+ is achieving some of its best ratings thanks to the broadcast of Formula 1. This season, Canal+ has three races left to surpass its record set in Mexico.

Note that if all Formula 1 Grand Prix races are pay-per-view in France, French regulations on sports access require Canal+ to offer at least three races for free.
