Sunday: Di Resta scores important points for Force India

Paul di Resta managed to finish in the points at the Italian Grand Prix with his eighth-place finish. The Scottish driver enabled the Force India team to score 4 points and thus move ahead of Sauber in the constructors' championship. Adrian Sutil, on the other hand, had to retire due to a hydraulic problem.

Paul di Resta – 8th

Of course, I am delighted to finish in eighth place today after a rather difficult race. My start wasn’t good, but the guys around me didn’t really get off to a better start. At the first corner, I saw a Williams coming toward me, so I went as far outside as possible, but I had no choice but to cut the chicane. Then we adopted an aggressive tire strategy, and I think we extracted everything possible. So it’s good to score four additional points, which help us gain a place in the constructors’ championship.

Adrian Sutil – Retirement

I got off to a good start, but I was in the middle of a lot of single-seaters, and I couldn’t really gain positions. Then the biggest problem was Liuzzi’s off-track excursion, which hit several cars at the first corner. I was on the inside and had to go into the gravel to avoid the wrecked cars, which made me lose time. Fortunately, the car was fine, so I was able to continue. I was on medium tires, so things looked good, and I felt the points were within reach. A few laps later, I lost power steering, so I knew I had a problem. I tried to downshift at the third corner, but I couldn’t, so I pulled over to the side. As we’ve seen with Paul’s result, we missed an opportunity to place both our cars in the points today.

Vijay Mallya, Team Director

A new entertaining race at Monza and a good performance from Paul and the team to finish in eighth place. We always thought points were possible, but we had to fight hard and avoid problems. Paul did a magnificent job of avoiding the first corner accident and had a great race, showing maturity and staying ahead of cars that were probably faster than him in absolute pace. The strategy was good and we managed our tires well to score four important points, as it allows us to take sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship. As for Adrian, he was unlucky today. He lost a lot of time on the first lap, but it became irrelevant when his car had a hydraulic problem. So we finish the European season very optimistic and look forward to racing in Singapore in a few weeks.
