Friday: Alguersuari optimistic and Buemi in the wall at Toro Rosso

Better and better this season, Jaime Alguersuari confirms his good form by outperforming his unfortunate teammate, Sebastien Buemi, who went off the track during the second free practice session. Toro Rosso hopes to compete with Force India and Sauber this weekend.

Jaime Alguersuari – 10th and 14th

I’m very happy to be back racing at Monza, which is a great circuit with many high-speed sections and heavy braking zones. It’s exciting. In both sessions today, I had a good feeling with the car, and I think we will continue to be in good shape, with some improvements when we get to qualifying. The whole team did a good job today, and there’s more potential to extract from the car tomorrow and Sunday. If we keep working well throughout the weekend, I think we can match the level of Force India and Sauber. We tested the two DRS zones for the first time today and you can compare the significant speeds with or without the system; it makes a huge difference in top speeds, so it will be key to overtaking during the race, though less so in qualifying.

Sebastian Buemi – 17th and 17th

« This morning went well, we tried several things on the car to see how it behaved at Monza, so overall it was a positive session. However, this afternoon was less good as I was only able to complete a handful of laps. I made a mistake and hit the wall, so I’m sorry to give the team a lot of work to repair the damage. But, as they said, tomorrow is another day and this afternoon I will work hard with the engineers to see what we will do for the rest of the weekend. Regarding the tires, not much to say, I only ran with the primes. The DRS works well, and driving with a car specifically set up for Monza with low downforce is interesting and enjoyable ».
