Alonso wants to return to victory at Monza
Fernando Alonso has won only one race this season. The Ferrari driver is determined to make up for it, starting with the next Grand Prix in Monza.
This weekend, Fernando Alonso will arrive on the home turf of his team, the native of Maranello. He didn’t fail to mention that this circuit produces a special emotion for every driver: « Being the fastest circuit of the season, Monza is a very special track for each of us. Driving on this track produces an extraordinary feeling, especially because it emphasizes full throttle and long straights and encourages overtaking ».
Last year, the Bull of Asturias claimed the winner’s trophy. As the Spaniard confided, winning an Italian Grand Prix with Ferrari produces a special feeling: « Winning at Monza is incredible for any driver. But winning at the wheel of a red car is even better! I was lucky enough to fulfill this dream in 2010. Seeing all the supporters dressed in the colors of the Scuderia, and the whole team at the foot of the podium applauding us to the sound of the Italian anthem… It brings immense pleasure… ».
That’s why he is eager to return to the Lombard circuit. And this year, his intentions haven’t changed: he clearly wants the victory. But Alonso is realistic about his chances of winning: « It’s clear that I’m aiming for nothing but victory this weekend. However, the objective will be more challenging to achieve this season. The entire team is aware of the car’s potential, but we will have to face formidable opponents ».
In any case, Fernando said he was eager to race at Monza, which is one of his favorite circuits on the 2011 calendar: « As every year, I anticipate a particularly thrilling race, and I am really looking forward to experiencing the track with the car » added the double world champion.
Let us recall that the man from Oviedo has won this race twice, and he is currently 3rd in the championship with 157 points, 10 points behind Mark Webber.
